"OFFICE OF THE FUTURE"

Project Director / Design Team Leader with William McDonough + Partners

When Fortune invited us to envision the office of the future, we asked ourselves, “What is an office?” and “Whose future?” Instead of guessing about some distant point in time, we considered the possibilities for living and working right now. The building incorporates all the readily available strategies and techniques at that time for a high-performance tower. The structure is torqued to reduce necessary materials. The skin is photosynthetic: translucent integrated photovoltaics face south, and a vertical moss garden clads the north façade. The east and west edges are occupied by stacked winter gardens, indoor double-height parks doubling as conference centers, event spaces, and brown-bagging sites. The aim is to continue the streetscape of the side of the building. Inhabitat called it a “treescraper.” Featured at Greenbuild and the World Future Energy Summit, Abu Dhabi.
